The Basement Set the Scoreboard on Fire

The complete Week 3 recap and Week 4 preview. A 269-point basement shootout, a one-point upset, the last undefeated team, and several benches requesting legal representation.

League-office opening statement

Week 3 began with several organizations requesting patience and ended with the two winless teams combining for 269 points. Apparently the offense was not missing. It had simply been placed on hold while everybody found the account number.

Nabers posted 139, DSIZZLE posted 130 and lost, Black Mamba escaped by one, SMYTD's undefeated disguise came off, and No Maam became the only team left without a loss. The standings are getting clearer. The explanations are getting worse.

Three weeks are enough for a trend and barely enough for a manager to develop selective memory.

Every Matchup, No Recycled Alibis

Nabers and DSIZZLE get the feature. The one-point upset gets a hearing. Everybody else gets the score they submitted.

Featured shootout / Nabers 139, DSIZZLE 130

The league scheduled two 0-2 teams and accidentally booked an offensive summit. Nabers got 33 from Jahmyr Gibbs, 29 from newly added Sam Darnold, 19 from Brock Bowers, and 19 from the Vikings defense. DSIZZLE answered with 34 from Bijan Robinson, 32 from Brock Purdy, 21 from Drake London, and 18 from Matthew Golden. They combined for 269 points after combining for only 279 across the first two weeks. DSIZZLE posted the second-highest score in the entire league and still became the only 0-3 team. That is not losing badly; that is arriving at the emergency room in a tuxedo. Nabers finally won, DSIZZLE finally exploded, and the schedule handed out exactly one chair.

Biggest contributor
Jahmyr Gibbs scored 33, while Sam Darnold's 29 made his Friday free-agent addition look suspiciously competent.
Biggest disappointment
Malik Nabers scored two for the team named after him, then watched eight teammates handle the branding crisis.
Bench decision
No realistic bench swap changes the result. Both managers started the players who produced the fireworks.
Turning point
Gibbs, Darnold, Bowers, and Minnesota D/ST combined for 100 points, giving Nabers enough insulation to survive DSIZZLE's Monday-night push.
Nabers earned the week's loudest win. DSIZZLE owns the most respectable 0-3 record nobody wants.

One point, two guilty benches / Black Mamba 79, The Muscle Team 78

Black Mamba went from 40 points to 79 and somehow toppled the league's former number one by a point. Deebo Samuel scored 18, Kyren Williams and Tee Higgins added 15 each, and the Packers defense contributed negative two just to keep the paperwork dramatic. Muscle received 16 from Josh Allen and 16 from Jeremiyah Love, but left Michael Wilson's 14 on the bench while Rome Odunze scored four. Black Mamba also benched Trevor Lawrence's 19 for Bryce Young's 13. The final was less a chess match than two managers dropping pieces and Black Mamba finding the clock first.

Biggest contributor
Deebo Samuel's 18 led Black Mamba in the upset.
Biggest disappointment
Dalton Kincaid scored one for Muscle; Green Bay D/ST scored negative two for Black Mamba.
Bench decision
Michael Wilson outscored Rome Odunze by 10. That single verified swap turns Muscle's 79-78 loss into an 88-79 win.
Turning point
The one-point margin made every ignored bench point eligible for cross-examination.
Black Mamba earned the upset. Muscle submitted the winning lineup one row too low.

The champion is now alone / No Maam 95, Bench Don't Kill My Vibe 81

No Maam did not need another cinematic comeback. Jaxon Smith-Njigba scored 26, Tyler Shough added 23, and Christian Watson supplied 15 as the defending champion reached 3-0. Bench got 20 from George Kittle, 15 each from Javonte Williams and Ja'Marr Chase, and negative one from Jadarian Price. Bo Nix scored 23 on the bench while C.J. Stroud scored 11. The swap would have made it 95-93, which is a much nicer way to lose and exactly as useful in the standings.

Biggest contributor
Jaxon Smith-Njigba led No Maam with 26 and has now supplied 64 points in two weeks.
Biggest disappointment
Jadarian Price scored negative one and Tetairoa McMillan scored one for Bench.
Bench decision
Bo Nix scored 12 more than Stroud, but that single swap still leaves Bench two points short.
Turning point
No Maam received at least 12 from three receivers while Bench started two players who combined for zero.
No Maam is the league's only 3-0 team. Bench has returned the temporary recovery certificate.

A 2-0 record meets an invoice / No Vaseline 95, Show Me Your TD's 66

SMYTD's entered 2-0 with the league's softest points-against file. No Vaseline responded by opening the folder in public. James Cook scored 21, Jordan Love 20, Kenyon Sadiq 18, and Evan McPherson 10. SMYTD's nine starters combined for 66, with Jalen Hurts' 12 leading the entire organization. The final margin was 29, and the schedule merchant finally met a customer who requested a receipt.

Biggest contributor
James Cook's 21 led a No Vaseline lineup with four double-digit scorers.
Biggest disappointment
Justin Jefferson scored three, and no SMYTD's starter reached 13.
Bench decision
SMYTD's bench totaled 13. There was no hidden rescue plan, only additional witnesses.
Turning point
Sadiq's 18 outscored every player on SMYTD's roster.
No Vaseline is 2-1 with a real blowout. SMYTD's is 2-1 with its luck-index appointment confirmed.

The correction has become a trend / Big Dog Squad 100, P-TOWN PLAYAS 80

Big Dog followed its 112-point Monday theft with an even 100. Matthew Stafford scored 23, Kenneth Walker III 19, Davante Adams 15, and Bhayshul Tuten 14. P-TOWN finally started Dak Prescott, received 18 from him, then got zero from Kyle Pitts and one from the Patriots defense. After Week 1, Big Dog looked like a group photo. Two wins later, the group has apparently hired security.

Biggest contributor
Matthew Stafford led Big Dog with 23; Walker, Adams, and Tuten supplied 48 more.
Biggest disappointment
Kyle Pitts scored zero in P-TOWN's starting tight-end slot.
Bench decision
Luther Burden's 12 could have added six over Ladd McConkey, but Big Dog did not need the correction.
Turning point
Big Dog placed four players between 14 and 23 while P-TOWN's bottom four starters combined for 11.
Big Dog's back-to-back triple-digit weeks are evidence. P-TOWN's ceiling remains trapped behind weekly inconsistency.

Winning while hiding the insurance / TP Hulk Smash 85, La Cosa Nostra 76

Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry scored 20 each, Harold Fannin Jr. added 17, and TP Hulk won despite De'Von Achane scoring one, Xavier Worthy scoring two, and the 49ers defense scoring zero. Jordan Addison's 16 watched from TP's bench. La Cosa had its own unused solution: Jared Goff and Zay Flowers scored 28 on the bench while Patrick Mahomes and Rashod Bateman combined for 18. Those two swaps produce an 86-85 La Cosa win. Both teams located the winning lineup; only TP accidentally survived not using it.

Biggest contributor
Jackson and Henry combined for 40 to give TP Hulk a usable floor.
Biggest disappointment
Achane, Worthy, and San Francisco D/ST combined for three.
Bench decision
Goff over Mahomes and Flowers over Bateman add 10 for La Cosa, enough to reverse the nine-point loss.
Turning point
La Cosa's two reasonable bench upgrades stayed seated while TP's two 20-point Ravens did the work.
TP is 2-1 with schedule help. La Cosa is 1-2 with another result it could almost touch.
